Japan's supermarkets price scale

When I first moved to Japan I was a little overwhelmed by the number of different supermarket chains here – my home country has four "main" chains, so the variety here seemed like a lot. It was hard to know which ones represented the best and worst value for money, but obviously over time you learn about which places give more bang for your buck.

The image below has recently been doing the rounds online (I sourced it from here), and it racks and stacks supermarkets here according to their cost-effectiveness. The top ones are seen as for wealthy people/celebrities, going down the list to the cheapest prices.

From the chain supermarkets, we most commonly shop at Aeon supermarket, but we also have an independent supermarket in our town that we frequent regularly.

What do you think about this ranking scale? Is your most frequently used supermarket on this table?

I depend on the bottom third - Besia, Gyomu Supa, and Belx for most of my food shopping. The quality and price points are great if you prefer primarily washoku prepared food and ingredients.

My daily supermarket Akafurado is not even on the list, even they have good value. But I also use very often Oozeki and mybasket. I sometimes go to Lincos, but just for getting some foreign products, which I can not get somewhere else. Actually most of the stores on the list, I´ve never even seen before. Seems like they are not so presented in my area.

@BlueButterfly Yes, I agree, some of them I've never encountered before!
