In the last year or so, Sapporo Breweries has innovated by bringing in young brewers for their Yebisu brand line, Creative Brew. The innovative brewers are responding to trends in craft brew offerings and experimenting with various hop, malt, and aroma-enhancing ingredients. The fourth beer in the Creative Brew series, Yebisu Juicy Ale, is brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops characterized by a white grape-like scent, and Polaris, a hop with a mint aroma. The beer pours a sunny golden yellow with a foamy head.

I've been following the Creative Brew series, trying each in turn. They're interesting and some appeal while others don't. Number four, Yebisu Juicy Ale, appears to be an American blonde ale. Do I recommend this one? For the novelty and experience, yes. However, it's essentially a major brewery offering with a grapefruit flavor. When I poured it, the beer offered a sunny yellow color and head that disappeared quickly. The grapefruit flavor is quite pronounced. Does it work with the hop choice? It's sweet and a little bitter from the citrus. I tried it once. Maybe it's just not for me.
